Gladys Gunderson Fox was born November 18 1902 in Lisbon, IL
After his first wife died Gladys married George Fox Sr., of Lockport. George had 3 sons, George Jr, Earl and Don.
In 1957 took over her husband’s position as a Lockport Township Park District commissioner when George Fox Sr. died. When his term expired, she ran and won a seat on the board where she served for 39 years.
Gladys was not afraid to go where no woman had ever gone before. She was also former president of the Golden Agers, and volunteered for Will County Historical Society.
She was a member and former president of the Lockport Woman’s Club since the 1930s.
Mrs. Fox was honored at the 72nd Annual Childer Guild Ball for her 39 years of volunteering at Silver Cross Hospital, having clocked in 38,000 hours of volunteer work.
The Park district dedicated the Gladys Fox museum to her in 1988 in honor of her years of volunteer work in the community.
Gladys died April 16 2002 at her home in Lockport at the age of 99.
