Hiram Lawrence was a Lockport resident who fought in the Civil War. Hiram joined the 100th Illinois Infantry, and was part of Company C which included 54 men from Lockport. He survived the war and mustered out in June 1865. He returned to life in Lockport, and Lawrence Avenue is named after him, as is the Hiram Lawrence Subdivision. Hiram left behind his civil war diaries and bible, and they are now in the possession of one of his descendants in Lockport.
