John Lamb was born in 1926 in North Dakota. He served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received degrees in history from University of North Dakota, Fordham University, and Oxford University in England. He taught at Lewis College (later University) from 1956 to 1994, when he retired. John Lamb has committed a great amount of his life and research to the I & M Canal, and remains an active organizational and committee member. He’s written many articles and collections regarding the I & M Canal and the National Heritage Corridor, including the photo collection titled “Lockport, Illinois: The Old Canal Town”.
